Fans of Kansas State sports and families at two high schools in Johnson County, Kansas are sad about the death of a close friend.
Terrale Johnson, who was 29 years old and had been an All-Big 12 player at K-State, died suddenly on Saturday. His family and friends haven’t said what killed him and His loved ones haven’t disclosed his cause of death. Johnson was a native of Manhattan. Johnson was born in Manhattan, Kansas.
At Shawnee Mission South High School, there is a sad vibe. Friends of Johnson say that his family became worried when he didn’t show up for lunch with a family member that he was meant to meet. He helped out with football at Shawnee Mission South and was a helper who worked with kids who had special needs.
“This situation affects many of our young people,” Dr. Todd Dain, who has been the high school’s director for a long time, said on Monday.
Dain said that counselors are available to help students and workers who are still processing Johnson’s death. Dain said it would be hard to match Johnson’s always positive attitude.
“Coach T was all about making people better and getting to know them.” He liked kids. He loved all kids. As Dain put it, “He loved our culture and spread excitement about our South culture.”
Johnson coached offensive tackles at Mill Valley High School before coming to work at Shawnee Mission South. He helped the school win its fifth straight Kansas Class 5A State Championship.
“Terrell lived 29 years, and he lived them very well,” Jaguars Coach Joel Applebee said.
He also worked at Mill Valley as an aide. Applebee said that he was a hero in the classroom and that kids liked him.

“When you know someone is good at what they do and loves it, you can tell.” The game part of things was not important to him; he was the same way in school, Applebee said.
Some schools in the area have sent their thoughts to Johnson’s family online. Dain says that the funeral will take place in Manhattan on Tuesday.
