In 25 minutes, he scored 15 points, grabbed 4 boards, and passed the ball 4 times, helping the team beat the Detroit Pistons. Because of injuries on the main team, Edwards gave him a chance to play right away. He started 55 of the 72 games he played in his first season with the Timber Wolves. By the end of the season, he had made such an effect on the team that he was named runner-up for Rookie of the Year, made the NBA All-Rookie first team, and became the third youngest player in NBA history to score 40 or more points.
