Fans were shocked when Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen said last week that they split up last year, even though they had been together for over 14 years. In a strange tennis-themed post, the 52-year-old Borat star and the 48-year-old Australian actor said they were no longer together on social media on 8 April 2024 Via Instagram.

The reason they broke up has now been revealed. According to the Daily Mail, one major reason was Isla’s father Brian’s death in January 2023. They say she was “absolutely devastated” and had to “reassess her life” after the loss.
“Isla and her dad were so close; she absolutely adored him and losing him destroyed her,” a friend told the publication. “It was one of those moments in life that changes you, and it wasn’t long after this that Isla began to consult lawyers about splitting up with Sacha.”
“Maybe, after all, she decided that he wasn’t the man that she would spend the rest of her life with. Her dad was such a strong, male influence in her life.”
Also, they went from Los Angeles to Sydney in 2020 and then to Perth in September 2021 to be with Isla’s family because of Sydney’s Covid lockdown rules. At the time, they thought the move would last forever.
But the move is thought to have been hard for Sacha because he was used to living in Hollywood and the trip home to London was shorter than the one from Australia.
A person who knows the couple well says that their move to the UK “came out of the blue” and they hadn’t planned to go there.
“But things were becoming difficult and, as they say, home is where the heart is. Perhaps Sacha thought that would make things better. It didn’t though – things just crumbled and crumbled.”
Isla reportedly revealed to friends that she was looking into hiring a divorce lawyer in 2022. She quietly contacted Baroness Fiona Shackleton, who famously negotiated King Charles’ divorce from Princess Diana. She advised the couple to go down an “amicable route”.
“Isla has known for some time the marriage was over, and after some difficult conversations with Sacha, made the decision to consult a divorce lawyer. This was back in early summer, 2022,” a source told The Sun.
“Fiona is an incredible lawyer, and utterly fearsome in both reputation and ability,” they said.
Sacha is thought to have talked to Laura Wasser, who worked with Johnny Depp after he and Amber Heard broke up.

Isla and Sacha announce split
The pair announced their split by sharing a snap of themselves in tennis gear, with a statement that read: “After a long tennis match lasting over 14 years, we are finally putting our racquets down.
“We both filed to end our marriage in 2023.” We’ve always put our privacy first, and we’ve been going through this change in silence.
“We will always love and be devoted to our children together.” Thank you so much for honouring our family’s right to privacy.
They got married in 2010 after meeting in 2001. Their three kids are a girl (17 years old) named Olive and a son (9 years old) named Montgomery.
