Recent Update– The trooper responding said Stewart failed to observe her light change to red and struck Wallace’s driver’s side door. The light had changed to green before Wallace pulled out onto Highway 65, it continued.
Further investigation into the matter reveals Stewart failed to observe a warning light and failed to stop for the steady red signal, and, as a matter of fact, was traveling in excess of the posted speed limit.
An Illinois teen is now charged for her involvement in a fatal crash in Pettis County.
The accident occurred at 7:40 p.m. May 6 when 19-year-old Maggie Stewart of Coal City, Illinois, was driving northbound on Highway 65 just north of Sedalia.
The patrol reported that Stewart’s northbound Chevy truck struck Wallace as she was turning off Rejson Rebar Road into the southbound lane of Highway 65.
Wallace was life-flighted to a Columbia hospital where she died. Stewart wasn’t injured. Stewart has been charged today with driving a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner involving an accident. The charge is a misdemeanor.
