Bailey Point Investment Group: Developers with a Winning Game Plan

How a 93-year-old woman has to fight off a builder who wants to take her historic family house.

For decades, developers have been taking land from people of color. If they couldn’t get Black people to leave their land, they would either threaten to do so or get the city to re-align the land for some state-approved reason and take it. This happened all over the country.

Bruce Beach was recently given back to the children of the Black owners. This is just one of many cases being fought in court and won so that stolen goods can be given back to their original owners.

This kind of takeover has happened in my own family, right in front of me. In a similar case, my parents bought land that had two lots and a lake in the back of the property.

Another white lawyer who owned land close by tried to take one of their lots. They went to court and fought to keep the second lot that was truly theirs through the previous owner, who was their son and my brother. They had to fight for their land, but the rest is history.

Josephine Wright, who is 93 years old, is fighting against people who want to build on her land and take her ancient family home. This is so sad. Wright, who is 93 years old, is fighting in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, for what is hers. Bailey Point Investment Group investors have been calling Wright and telling her she needs to sell the land her house is on, Mr. Wright said.

It is right for her to say that she will fight until the end to save her family’s house. Her family has owned this land since just after the Civil War. His family, who were Gullah Geechee and had escaped slavery, bought this land after the Union freed them.

These builders don’t care about the history of this house; they want to tear it down to build something else. These developers must be able to find other homes to buy. Why take something that belongs to someone else, especially since she wants to stay in her home and doesn’t want to be bought or made to leave? That Bailey Point Investment Group Developers is a jerk. According to a 29-acre, 147-unit plan, these investors are building on the land behind Ms. Wright’s house.

Their progress has been slowed down by Ms. Wright’s house. At least they knew the house was there when they made these plans. But maybe they were sure they could scare or buy this 93-year-old woman out of her home. Well, it looks like they were wrong. You can count on Ms. Wright to fight hard, and now that her case has gone viral on social media across the country, all eyes are on Bailey Point Investment Group Developers.

“A fighter all my life,” Ms. Wright has said about herself. As you might expect, they offered to buy Wright’s land from her, and when she turned them down, they started to bother her. The developers are said to have cut her tires, thrown trash in her yard, and even hung a snake in her window.

Wright made her situation very clear: “At first, it confused me, but then it made me angry. I guess they thought that the harassment would make me so scared that I would say ‘take it,'” Wright said. They don’t know me, though. I’m here to defend what I own. They should leave me alone and let me keep my stuff. The news sources say, “I don’t want to say anything that could be used against me, but I think they are dishonest and greedy, and they want all the property they can get their hands on.”

Bailey Point sued Wright because they said that parts of her home, like the porch, shed, and satellite dish, were on their land. She paid $1,900 to have her shed moved and her satellite dish taken down. What they said about her porch might not be true.

After giving Baily Point pursuits, Ms. Wright hired a lawyer to help her fight the unfair lawsuit. Her family also started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for her growing legal fees as she fights for what is rightly hers.

To sum up, no one, not even a landlord, can just walk in and take someone’s property. Someone would not be able to do that to their land. This horrible crime has always been done to black people as if their rights to own property don’t matter. That’s right, Ms. Wright. The fight is for all BIPOC, not just her.

Today it’s Ms. Wright’s turn to fight, tomorrow it could be someone with brown skin, and so on. I gave it to her GoFundMe because I thought it was the right thing to do for Ms. Wright and other people like her. People who are building should leave this 93-year-old woman alone.
