Repeated lying, grifting, and other transgressions are indicative of his mental instability.
A new book called “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump,” which was written by 27 mental health doctors, made it very clear that Trump is thought to be mentally ill. Even though they used different names for his condition, they all agreed that he probably has “toxic narcissism” or “narcissistic personality disorder.”
A disorder like this can range in severity from mild “hedonism” to a major illness. Trump has the worst form of this disorder, which includes grandiosity, impulsivity, mania, bad judgment, paranoia, and disrespect for the law. The writers also mentioned the chance of getting Alzheimer’s early.

Overall, they all agreed that someone with so many mental flaws shouldn’t be in charge because they would be a threat to the country. Since none of the authors or experts had personally examined Trump, they were morally unable to say for sure what kind of mental illness he had or how bad it was. This made the problem debatable.
Textbooks say that criminal insanity is any mental sickness or disease that makes it impossible for defendants to know they are breaking the law or to understand that what they are doing is wrong. If a defendant is found to be criminally insane, they can use this defense. They will need to show proof and some kind of psychological exam.
That is, people can’t be found guilty if they have a mental illness that makes it impossible for them to know the difference between right and wrong.

To find out what kind of illness Trump has, he would have to go through a straight psychiatric evaluation, which he probably wouldn’t agree to because of his illness. On the other hand, anyone who even slightly watches his case can see that he is mentally ill because he keeps lying, stealing, and doing other bad things.
A full psychiatric exam might be able to tell if he can admit to himself that any of this behavior was wrong or illegal. It seems like he doesn’t think he did anything wrong or illegal, which would help his case for legal insanity.

Feeling the weight of a possible prison term, Trump might agree to a psychiatric evaluation. If it turns out that he really can’t tell the difference between right and wrong, he could get off Scot free and avoid prison. This would make him ineligible to hold any elected post, which was already known by a lot of people.
This last option seems like it would be the kindest for both Trump and the country.
