by On March 2, 2025, Jill Ann Miller left this world for her long-awaited destination. Many of you may have seen Jill when she was riding her bike or strolling around Bluffton, but I’m willing to bet that not many of you know her well.
She was a petite woman with reddish hair and freckles who usually appeared a little unkempt. Even when I first saw her about thirty years ago, she always had an older face. I started going to church when I first moved to Bluffton. Jill frequently went there. She seemed to talk more quickly than her mind could process, and she was warm and pleasant.
Jill had a seizure during the service, which is why I remember her so clearly. Jill was seated next to someone who did not step in. I found out that Jill had epilepsy and told everyone to let it happen naturally. Although those periods were infrequent, they controlled her life by limiting her options. In true Jill flair, she rode off on her bike.
As long as she could, she went to church since she was a devout Christian. Over the years, Jill developed a close friendship with my wife. I found out that Jill had a challenging past. She put a lot of effort into maintaining her independence so that no one else would have to take care of her.
She was a fascinating individual. She was one of the smartest and most intelligent persons I have ever known, but she also had trouble with everyday tasks took solace in her routine, and continued to be active. You got the loveliest individual who enjoyed your company and wanted nothing more than to spend time with you if you were regarded as a friend.
Her biggest challenge in recent years was having to move into a nursing home after she was unable to care for herself. She didn’t like it, and as the day drew nearer, Jill started to yearn for her Lord Jesus because of the house, COVID-19, and her aged body. She accepted death quite well and showed no fear of it.
On her final day, she and my wife listened to scripture and the Gaithers together. She went away peacefully that Sunday morning, and I do not doubt that she is aware of the tranquility and home she has always desired.
