The story of Mobile Suit Gundam: GQuuuuuuX unfolds in an alternate timeline of the Universal Century, drastically different from the original series. Here’s the premise:

Five years after the Principality of Zeon achieved victory in the One Year War, a fragile peace exists with the Earth Federation. The Zeon victory was made possible because Char Aznable managed to steal the RX-78-2 White Gundam early in the war and renamed it the Red Gundam. This gave Zeon a decisive technological advantage.

However, during the final stages of the war, the Red Gundam’s experimental Psycommu system malfunctioned, causing Char and the Red Gundam to vanish in a mysterious phenomenon called Zeknova.

Five years later, on the neutral space colony Side 6, we meet Amate Yuzuriha, a seemingly ordinary high school student with a hidden longing for freedom. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she encounters Nyaan, a war refugee who has fled her devastated homeland.

Their meeting inadvertently draws Amate into the dangerous world of Clan Battles, an illegal and high-stakes mobile suit dueling sport popular in the refugee communities. Amate, nicknamed “Machu,” discovers a surprising aptitude for piloting and begins participating in these battles, seeking a sense of liberation within the confines of the space colony.

Meanwhile, the reappearance of the Red Gundam after its five-year disappearance sends ripples of unease through both Zeon and the Space Police. Challia Bull, a former subordinate of Char Aznable, leads a Zeon task force determined to recapture the legendary mobile suit.

Their pursuit leads them to Side 6, where Xavier Olivette, piloting the gMS-Ω GQuuuuuuX, a new prototype Gundam equipped with an advanced Omega Psycommu system meant for Newtype pilots, is sent to capture the Red Gundam.

During a confrontation, Xavier’s GQuuuuuuX crashes near Amate and Nyaan. In a twist of fate, Amate finds herself in the cockpit of the GQuuuuuuX.
