Katherine E. Young: How Did He Die
Katherine E. Young, 37, a resident of Greenville, RI, unexpectedly passed away on December 30, 2023, at Rhode Island Hospital. Born in Providence, Katherine was the daughter of Stephen C. and Cheryl A. Olszewski and the beloved partner of Richard “Ricky” E. Young for 14 years.
Growing up in Coventry, RI, Katherine’s childhood was marked by familial bonds and a love for good food. She played the piano, explored art with her mother, and engaged in recreational soccer. Katherine graduated from Coventry High School and pursued her passion for music education at Gordon College, earning a Bachelor of Music. Later, she achieved a Master’s Degree in Education from the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY.
Katherine touched lives in diverse settings, volunteering in Zambia with the Chikumbuso organization and sponsoring multiple young individuals to support their education and livelihoods. Her impact continued at Smithfield High School, where she passionately taught music, chorus, band, and theater for a decade. She revived the musical theater program and contributed to productions at the middle school, leaving an indelible mark as a mentor and advocate for her students.
A Life Devoted to Others
Beyond the classroom, Katherine was a dedicated cook and hostess, welcoming all into her home with warmth and hospitality. Her involvement extended to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Pawtucket, where she shared her love for music every Sunday. As a mother, Katherine coached her son’s soccer team and taught her daughter to play the piano. She found solace in paddleboarding and the tranquility of her hot tub.
Her ‘can-do’ attitude and perpetual smile were sources of inspiration for all who knew her, making her one of the most productive and positive individuals. Although Katherine has departed, her memory lives on through her partner, parents, children, and sister, Christina Wolf.
