Jason Isbell and Amanda Shires split up after being married for almost ten years.
According to papers seen by WhiskeyRiff on Wednesday, February 7, the Grammy-winning Americana singer, 45, has asked for a divorce from his singer/songwriter fiddle player wife, 41. It was turned in on December 15, 2023, in Williamson County, which is outside of Nashville, according to the news source.
Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears’ old fight has started up again.
After going out for two years, Isbell and Shires got married in 2013. Shires had their only child, a girl named Mercy, in 2015.
Fans who paid close attention may not have been surprised by the couple’s breakup. They haven’t been seen together in a few months, and a birthday message to Isbell that Shires shared on her social media account earlier this month was quickly taken down. They stopped following each other on Instagram the same day.
Shires and Isbell were a creative power couple, and they worked together on many projects. Shires was often on stage with Isbell’s band, the 400 Unit, playing fiddle with her husband. During their shows, especially during Isbell’s fan-favorite song “Cover Me Up,” you could feel how well they got along.
Isbell’s first movie role was in Killers of the Flower Moon, which was nominated for an Academy Award. Shires, on the other hand, took a break from her solo work to form the country supergroup The Highwomen with Maren Morris, Brandi Carlile, and Natalie Hemby. In the days before the breakup, she’s been sharing new solo music on her social media accounts.
Isbell won two Grammys at this year’s show, Best American Roots Song and Best Americana Album, on February 4. Shires was not in the crowd, which may say the most.
