Now well into its second decade of total reign over the MMORPG space, World of Warcraft (WoW) is finally making an entry into the battle royale field with its Plunderstorm event. This isn’t quite the case with Fortnite, but Plunderstorm adds some new flair for players who’ve gotten rather used to the core WoW experience.

How Does it Work?
In Plunderstorm, players are able to create new, event-only characters that level within the given event. Abilities to be used are gained from chests strewn around the map and offer a fast track way to power. It will launch from the main game menu, not from within the standard WoW world.
Like in other titles that belong to the battle royale type, Plunderstorm will have a shrinking play area, magically imposed by the storm, which will inevitably bring players into a final showdown to death. With this part, solo players can play and take the game, but they can team up and take only one fan to the victorious ending.
Gameplay and Challenges
Encounters with non-player enemies are crucial for leveling up and gaining the advantage over human opponents. Games include 60 players and generally run from 10 to 15 minutes, with the actual duration taken into account by the shrinking play area. Plunderstorm setting is from the Agatha Highlands in the Eastern Kingdoms.

Reward System
The players participating in the Plunderstorm will have the opportunity to unlock its rewards that can be used in the main game and WoW Classic. Associate game director Jeremy Feasel said players will be able to climb 40 “renown levels” that will earn them rewards of exclusive items, among them pets and mounts.
