Michael Hogan Health Update: What We Know So Far

It was almost four years ago that we learned Battlestar Galactica star Michael Hogan had gone through a slip-and-fall accident that left him partially paralyzed. It took him a long time to get stronger on his left side, but his wife Susan Hogan has been giving him regular reports since then. Now, Mr. Hogan made his first public appearance since the accident. He had to quit his job as an actor to focus on long hours of physiotherapy.

In a Go Fund Me page set up to help with his healing (which has been expensive because he hasn’t been able to work), his partner shared the news. They talked about how the Actors Union gave her an award and how her husband felt well enough to go to the event. It would be his first public showing since the accident that happened after a Battlestar Galactica fan convention.

I had the honor of being given an award in November – Woman of Distinction – from the Actors Union and the members. It was extraordinary. And I was able to bring Michael! It was his first time out in public in four years, and he shone!!! Everyone was so happy to see him, and talk to him! It filled my heart.

Fans were very interested in how “Saul Tigh’s” healing was going since he was the star of one of the best sci-fi shows of all time. When they heard about the accident, his old BSG co-stars came together to support him. Katee Sackhoff wrote at the time, “This man and his family are so incredibly special.” Saakhoff has called her BSG family “the family we choose,” and she seems to get along well with the other group members.

Now, Susan has also given us a report on Michael’s abilities and limitations following his stroke. It looks like things have moved forward.

Michael is continuing to improve. He can take ten steps just holding on to the bannister! It’s incredible! Slow and steady wins the race.

She also thanked the fans who have kept giving money during Michael’s trip. The family has raised a huge $461,700 so far toward their $600,000 goal to help Hogan continue to heal. The money will go toward physical therapy and other major medical costs. Susan had said before that she didn’t think the Battlestar Galactica actor, who is also known for playing parts in Teen Wolf, 12 Monkeys, and Fargo, would be able to work that much again.

It looks like he just got a part in 2024 doing voice work for the cartoon show Sonya From Toastville. In the post, she also said that he has been working on a one-man show to keep his artistic spirit alive. Of course, almost four years is a long time to be recovering, but I’m glad the actor’s situation seems to be getting better every day.

If you know him from his sci-fi work, you’ll be happy to hear that a new series of Battlestar Galactica will be coming to Peacock subscribers.
