An Ohio ‘Migrant influencer’ is in custody after posting videos on legal loopholes.

A Venezuelan man who had been an illegal immigrant has been under detention and is now in custody after boasting of how he made free money out of America in a viral video and advising other newcomers to make use of U.S. laws that protect squatters.

One TikTok video tried to explain squatting laws and how they could be used by a so-called “migrant influencer,” Leonel Moreno. His account has since been removed from the platform.

“I learned that there is this law that says if the house is not lived in, then we can take it,” said the man from Guatemala. “Here in the United States, it will apply to the deformation of the terrain, and I think this will be my next business: invading abandoned houses.

Then one day after the above tweet he shared a Twitter video again with the caption” Venezuelan migrant who shared tips for illegal aliens on TikTok bursts into tears as his account is shut down. The man was using TikTok to share tips on how illegal aliens can cross the border and become squatters in American family homes.”

This April 2022, Moreno had crossed in an illegal way into the country at Eagle Pass, Texas, and had been released on parole, but the authorities said he never presented himself during his first check-in appointment with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Moreno was placed in the Alternatives to Detention program with a cell phone as a tracking device.

But that is because he did not follow the rules, those sources say that the Department of Homeland Security listed him as a pre-order absconder and that he was terminated from the program.

These sources later confirmed to NewsNation that Moreno was in custody.

Moreno has been ordered to make an appearance in a Florida court in February of 2025, but authorities have been troubled to keep track of him. The address he provided at first was Catholic Charities in Miami. However, sources told Local 10 News that he now has a possible address listed in Ohio.

Also in Ohio, Fermin Garcia-Gutierrez is another man allegedly taking advantage of the system and gaps in intelligence.

Butler County, Ohio, law enforcement officials said Garcia-Gutierrez has been in the jail of Sheriff Richard Jones 11 times, using seven different names and three different dates of birth. Jones said Garcia-Gutierrez has been reported eight times but keeps coming back time after time.

The latest arrest of Garcia-Gutierrez was for drugs and weapon offenses while under the influence, and for obstruction. And his story is not the only one. Since 2021, Jones has been keeping 1,000 immigrant inmates with ICE detainers close to his chest.
